Speech Therapy on the Cheap

My daughter is almost three-and-a-half….and she almost doesn’t talk. Words come out of her slowly, grudgingly, as if they personally wronged her.

So she’s in Early On, and she gets free speech therapy in her special ed preschool. But because she’s so unverbal, it had been recommended that she get private speech therapy at a hospital too. Luckily, our insurance pays for 60 visits per calendar year, but she needs more than that.

When I spoke of my frustration with the therapist, she said she will give me an application that when my insurance runs out, I can get therapy sessions for half-off. What a blessing. I hope it works.

Does other have any insight/experience getting thrapy for special needs children?

Do you have a Scottish Rite center near you? They also provide “free” speech therapy, though the criteria for enrolling are usually specific. Does she have other diagnoses besides speech/language development concerns?
